What to know about an

insurance Claim.

At Protecty Insurance Agency, we understand that an unexpected event can be stressful. That’s why our commitment is to guide you through every step of the claims process so you receive the attention and solution you deserve.

1. Review Your Policy

Before filing a claim, make sure you understand:

  • Coverage: what your policy includes (e.g., collision, theft, third-party damage, etc.).

  • Exclusions: damages due to negligence, natural disasters, or losses without clear evidence may not be covered.

  • Deductible: the amount you must pay out of pocket before the insurer covers the rest.

2. Gather the Necessary Information

The more organized your information, the faster your claim will progress:

  • Basic information: policy number, insured’s full name, date of birth, phone number.

  • Incident details: when, where, and how it happened.

  • Proof: photos and videos of the damage, police reports, fire department or hospital reports, witnesses with contact information.

  • Financial documents: invoices, receipts, repair estimates, medical records (for health insurance claims).

  •  Keep everything in a folder (physical or digital).

3. Contact the Insurance Company

Your first contact is crucial:

  •  Phone: most insurers have 24/7 claim lines.

  •  Email: useful for sending documents right away.

  •  App or web portal: many companies allow you to file claims online and upload photos.

  •  Agent or broker: if you purchased your policy through an agent, they can assist you.

  • Ask for your claim number and keep it for reference throughout the process.

4. Complete the Claim Form

The insurer will provide a physical or digital form. Include:

  • Your personal information.

  • Policy number.

  • Date and description of the incident.

  • Damages or losses claimed.

  • Proof collected in step 2.

  • Keep a copy of the submitted form (PDF or photo).

5. Inspection and Follow-Up

  • A claims adjuster may visit the site to assess damages.

  • They may request additional documents, such as rental contracts, receipts, or medical certificates.

  • Ask about response timelines and follow up regularly (phone calls or online portal).

  • Document every contact (date, time, name of the person).

6. Resolution and Payment

Once the insurer reviews your information, they will provide a response:

  • Approval: the claim is accepted, and you will receive payment or repair services.

  • Denial: the claim is rejected; you have the right to appeal.

  • Request for more information: if additional documentation is needed.

  • Check that the payment matches your coverage and deductible.
